Kitchen remodels can make a tremendous impact on your home since the kitchen is where a lot of people spend most of their time. You want your kitchen to feel fresh and clean, and somewhere you are comfortable to cook.
An Updated Galley Style KitchenThe first of the kitchen remodels we are going to look can be found on Nesting With Grace – Mccormick Makeover. Here we see a kitchen that was previously an L shaped kitchen transformed into a chic galley style.
While looking at the before images of this kitchen, you can see that one of the main problem areas is the lighting. Small dim pendant lighting hanging over the island is just not enough for this area. Another problem area is the countertops. The solid black countertops are too heavy for the design, and with the limited lighting, such a dark color is making the space feel even gloomier.
As we can see the most noticeable change to this kitchen is not only the style but how bright the kitchen is now. By changing the layout and removing the large island, the kitchen space plan becomes much airier. Also, as you can see by opening up the counter space and opening up the floor plan helps light shine in from the windows. The cabinetry, as we can see, has a higher sheen to it. Not only does this sheen help protect the cabinetry but helps light reflect off of them, which allows light to bounce around the room. Lastly, by adding white countertops to the area helps pull off the all-white look.
Kitchen Make Over Extreme
Out of the kitchen remodels that we are going to be looking at, this one is probably the most extensive transformation. From dark and out of date to modern with a rustic flair.
Looking at this kitchen, we can see that it is incredibly outdated. Bulky, dark woods and upper cabinets that block the view, all needed to be replaced. However, the kitchen has a large space plan, and with a few minor tweaks, it will be looking good in no time.
This kitchen had a major haul, cabinets have been taken out, and the place thoroughly cleaned up. Now we can see the beauty this area was hiding. A beautiful key feature that has now been emphasized is the wooden beams. The beams create a rustic architectural element, and it keeps the characteristics of the home. Now, to talk about the new design. The kitchen has always had an open U shaped floor plan, but now with those overheads out of the way you can see how spacious the kitchen is! The updated color scheme is consistent throughout the area but still compliments the wood. The slight touches of timber and the farmhouse sink pull in the rustic vibe of this kitchen.
Beige And Boring To White And Simplistic
As you can see in the before picture, the half wall doesn’t belong and is just creating a barrier. Kitchen remodels can create a massive impact on your home, and as you can see in this before and after, it did just that.
This kitchen has nothing overly special, and it is mainly just builder finishes. From the honey oak cabinets to the beige tiled floor, everything blends. Also, the half wall separating the kitchen from the adjacent room has no purpose and is just creating a barrier. You can also see the lack of lighting in these before pictures, and light is not only needed but use lighting as accessories!
Let’s talk about the crucial first point, by removing that half wall they created more walk flow from room to room. Also, by choosing an all-white color scheme, you can see how it benefits this kitchen in particular because it helped lighten the place up. Going back to the point that was made before, use lighting as accessories! Look at how the two gold pendant lights add a design element to the space.
Small Change Big Impact
Looking at this before and after looks like a massive transformation but, if you look at everything carefully, you will see it is only cosmetic. You can see the lengths changing a color scheme can go.
As you can see, the kitchen has always had an excellent floor plan. It is an open U shaped kitchen with a large island in the middle. However, the dark cherry cabinets are weighing down the room. Also, there are many different tones of browns and beiges that aren’t cohesive to one another, causing the color flow to be off.
This kitchens layout stayed a hundred percent the same, but with some paint, you can make a drastic change. All the cabinetry, walls, and trimming are now stunning in white, which makes the space feel open and airy. Now, the kitchen counters didn’t have to be changed; they still would have looked stunning with the new white cabinetry. However, to complete the all-white look, the white countertops are a must. Other key features that were changed and added to the design of this room are the new pendant lights and backsplash.

Outdated Now Fresh
Kitchen remodels don’t need massive changes to feel updated. This kitchen structure has stayed the same but has modifications done to enhance it.
In this kitchen, the first thing you can see is how the island is a little too big for the area. Also, there is a lot of dark elements in the room the wood, backsplash, and countertops. Lastly, the pendant lights are too narrow and hanging too low. Kitchen remodels don’t have to be a huge job as you can see here in the before picture, the kitchen has good bones overall.
Like in the before picture, the first thing you notice is the island. The island is now a more appropriate size and height. The cabinetry has been freshly painted white and pairing with that are light grey walls. Also, the cabinetry has been extended to the ceiling, which is a great way too add storage. The updated backsplash adds a modern feel to the room and also extending the tiles above the vent hood of the stove adds character. Lastly, the new pendant lighting fixes the previous issues by not being hung so low and are sized correctly for the room.
A Dream Kitchen Makeover
Okay, so we may have saved the best for last. This poorly designed kitchen doesn’t make sense; you can’t open the appliances or cabinets properly and a lack of storage. Watch this kitchen go from builder grade to chic with personality.
This U shaped kitchen is poorly designed; you cannot open the oven and dishwasher at the same time. Also, the two corner storage is practically unusable, and it would be so hard to access. Everything in this kitchen feels “builder grade” and is calling for an upgrade.
As you can see, some major renovations have been done. Although the shape of the kitchen remains the same, the layout has changed and the bulkhead removed. Even though the bulkhead may be 6 or so inches, it makes for a significant impact on how much higher the ceiling feels without it. Next, let’s talk about the upper cabinets; they have been removed! You might be thinking, won’t this get rid of the storage? However, they were at awkward angles and in replacement open shelving was added, and accommodation was created in other places.
Fully tiled walls don’t only make for easy cleanup but will bring character into the room. Pendant and scone lighting was added in addition to the pot lights. The layout was changed, so the flow of the kitchen would work. You will now be able to use the oven while loading the dishwasher. Upgraded countertops, with new shaker style cabinets ties in the perfect simplistic style. When it comes to kitchen remodels, this kitchen honestly is the showstopper, results are lovely.
